Paul: Just read your reworking of that sentence in the Rheingold chapter we previously discussed (and thank you for the credit but it was not at all necessary), and it's missing a crucial word. You wrote:

Motif #1, described by Deryck Cooke as the Primal Nature Motif, or Original Nature Motif, "... traces out in arpeggiated form a major triad (... E flat major) ..." [contribution by A.C. Douglas], which is the fundamental component of all music....

The major triad is NOT "the fundamental component of all music." It is the fundamental component of all tonal music as I thought I'd made clear. It is not the fundamental component of, say, 12-tone music, or serial music, for instance.

Again, just FYI.

Dear ACD:

I'll do the quick fix: thanks again! Chalk it up to my neuralgia.

Could I make a suggestion? The site is wonderful and well designed but I notice that from the forum, unless I have missed it, there is no link back to the main site. Normally, clicking the site name at the top would take you back to the home page but in this instance you are directed back to the forum index. A small point but I thought I would mention it.

Dear Wagnerian:

Yes, somebody else brought that to our attention earlier. I'll run it past our webmeister.

By the way, my way around the problem is that I make my final click of the cursor on the "X" next to the bar on which various websites are posted, which is under the http bar, and that brings me back to the homepage. But, of course, one shouldn't have to invent ways to find one's way back.

Thanks for your observation.

Your friend from Wagnerheim,

Paul

To bring closure to my previous post...

Over the weekend I forwarded the promised web links to Alberich00 -- off-line, as their content is not really Wager/Ring specific.
The web developer remains unconvinced and lacks my vaunted confidence that a simple solution is to hand.

Dear Feuerzauber:

Our webmeister informs me that he's actively looking for a solution to this problem. I would have more to say about it myself, but my ignorance of this web arcana is a bottomless pit.

Comments thus far

This is an amazing intellectual feast. Having waited for well over a decade for your study to see the light of day, I'm delighted to see it finally take life.

The comments thus far are interesting.

But I'm still waiting for a substantial comment or suggestion on your work, Paul, or even a trenchant criticism. "Wouldn't thou remain always but a pupil only," Nietzsche has Zarathustra say, "why doest thou not grasp at my wreath?" Why not, indeed?

Hopefully, the meat will soon return to the bones.
