  • [T.1.2: I] First part of the orchestral interlude known as ‘Hagen’s Watch’.   815-816

Twilight of the Gods: Act One, Scene Three     817-850

Twilight of the Gods: Act One, Scene Three, Part One    817-838

[T.1.3] On top of Bruennhilde's rocky peak: Bruennhilde and Waltraute     817-838

  • [T.1.3: A] Second part of the orchestral interlude between T.1.2 and T.1.3, with Motifs recalling Bruennhilde's  warnings to Siegfried. Waltraute makes a surprise visit!    817-819

  • [T.1.3: B] Bruennhilde: (#163) For Bruennhilde's sake you've dared  to break War-Father's ban? Or has Wotan's heart relented towards  me? Wotan’s punishment has become my bliss, for thanks to it Siegfried won my love. (#163) Have you come here to share  my bliss? (she doesn't notice Waltraute's angst).    819-822

  • [T.1.3: C] Bruennhilde: (#163) What troubles you? Hasn’t Wotan pardoned me? Waltraute:  Since he left you, he no longer sends us to battle. (#81>#164) The Lord  of the Slain avoided Valhalla's  heroes. After wandering the world, he  returned with his spear broken. He had Valhalla's  heroes fell the World-Ash Tree  and (#115) pile its logs around  Valhalla. He sits in silence, among the gods and  heroes, disdains Freia's apples, and ignores us.   822-826

  • [T.1.3: D] Waltraute: We are all overcome by infinite dread. (#81>#164) To his breast I pressed myself weeping. His glance grew less harsh: (#99) he was  thinking of you. (#15) As if dreaming, Wotan said: (#19) If  only Bruennhilde would restore (#37) the Ring to the Rhine's daughters, from the curse's  weight (#15) god (#20c) and world would be freed!    826-829

  • [T.1.3: E] Waltraute: (#81>#164) I rode to you to beg you to free the gods from their dismay, by giving the Rhinedaughters the Ring. Bruennhilde: Siegfried's  pledge of love? Are  you insane?    829-832

  • [T.1.3: F] Bruennhilde: Do you know what the Ring means to me! I’d give up Valhalla's eternal  bliss [Freia] for Siegfried's love:  the Ring embodies it! (#134) For Siegfried's love shines blissfully from the Ring. (#18) The  gods will  never take love  from me, (#19/#20a) though Valhalla's glittering pomp should moulder into dust!   832-835

  • [T.1.3: G] Waltraute: (#82) Is this your loyalty? (#51) In grief, you'd  lovelessly send  your sister away? (#97/#79) Woe betide Valhalla’s gods, woe betide you! Bruennhilde: Go away and never return!    835-838
