Siegfried    461-732

Siegfried: Act One   461-538

Siegfried: Act One, Scene One    461-490

[S.1.1] Mime's forge: Mime and Siegfried   461-490

  • [S.1.1: A] Gloomy Prelude: (#101) Mime: Siegfried breaks all my swords, but I can’t re-forge Nothung, the  only sword that would serve.  461-462

  • [S.1.1: B] Mime: Only with Nothung can Siegfried kill Fafner and win Alberich's  Ring for me. (#102)  Yet I can't forge Nothung!  462-464

  • [S.1.1: C] (#103) Siegfried sets a bear on Mime, breaks Mime’s latest sword on the anvil, and  expresses his contempt and loathing for Mime, (#104) the shameful bungler.   464-467

  • [S.1.1: D] Mime (#41 Duple  Vari) describes in detail all that Siegfried owes him for room, board, and  loving care, but Siegfried treats Mime with disdain. Mime: (#105) From a suckling babe  I brought you up, teaching you much, as if you were a second self.   467-472

  • [S.1.1: E] Siegfried: Since I despise you so much, why do I always return home?  Mime:  (#106) It proves how dear to your heart I must be!  (#107) Whimpering,  young things long for their parents' nest.  473-474

  • [S.1.1: F] Siegfried: Answer  another question: (#108) Among the  animals I saw  fathers and mothers  living fondly with each other and building  nests for their young. So where’s my mother? Mime: I’m your father and mother. Siegfried:  Liar! I've noticed children resmble their parents.   474-476

  • [S.1.1: G] Siegfried: I get it! I come back so you can tell me who my true parents are.  Mime: Yes, I'm not your parent, but you owe me for your upbringing!  476-479

  • [S.1.1: H] Mime: Your suffering mother (#66) Sieglinde died (#66) giving you birth, leaving you in my care.  I don't recall your father's name.   479-482

  • [S.1.1: I] Siegfried: Show me proof! Mime: Here’s the pieces of your dying father's  sword. Siegfried: (#109) Re-forge it: then I'll wield my  rightful sword and (#110) I'm off into the world!  You're not my father, my home's far away! Fleet as the fish, free as the finch as it soars, (#111) I fly from here and  float away, never to see you again!  483-487

  • [S.1.1: J] Mime: I’m trapped! To my age-old plight ["Noth"] (#19) I can add a new one. How lead Siegfried to Fafner’s lair now? (#112) How  re-forge Nothung?  487-490

Siegfried: Act One, Scene Two    491-512

[S.1.2] Mime's forge: Mime and the Wanderer (Wotan)    491-512

  • [S.1.2: A] (#112) Wanderer: (#113) I wander the earth (Erda) to gain knowledge: many wise men  don't know what they need. Mime: I know enough! Leave!   491-498
